York River Ouse Kings Staith and Moored Boats p01

Photograph: King's Staith quayside (York), moored leisure boats, al-fresco diners and old buildings.

Product Description

A JPEG (jpg) format digital image (photograph).

The image shows the King's Staith area of York (England) on a bright sunny day.

On the River Ouse in the foreground, there are four white leisure boats moored against the quayside wall.

In the middleground, dozens of people are relaxing in the al-fresco dining areas that have been laid-out on the quayside.

A variety of attractive historic buildings form the background of the image. These cover a range of periods and styles. Most are constructed with red or brown brick walls, although one has a stone-built ground floor, with a white-rendered (timber-framed) first floor and a second floor window let into the apex of the gable end wall. The rather grand looking building with brick walls and stone quoins (top-right) is Cumberland House.

The moored leisure boats and al-fresco diners add a Mediterranean atmosphere to this otherwise quintessentially English riverside scene.

It is interesting to compare this image with York River Ouse in Flood at Kings Staith p01.
