York Castle Museum Raindale Mill from Southeast p01

Photograph: The southwest and southeast elevations of Raindale Mill (York Castle Museum).

Image Description

The image shows the southwest and southeast elevations of Raindale Mill.

The supporting frame and pulley wheel of an external hoist can be seen projecting from the roof above the ground and first floor doorways.

In front of the mill building, there are two small paved areas and two parallel wooden 'post and rail' fences (one very new, one well-weathered). A row of old millstones can be seen set into the grass between the two fences. Two bench seats have been provided on the paved areas. One of the benches is occupied by a middle-aged couple accompanied by an elderly lady who is seated in a wheelchair. They all appear to be enjoying the sunshine.

This photograph was taken from Castle Mills Bridge.
