Low Petergate

Petergate is named after York Minster, which is dedicated to St Peter. The first recorded use of the names High Petergate and Low Petergate dates from 1736.

Petergate runs alongside the southern boundary of the Minster precincts and the Minster is dedicated to St Peter, hence the name given to the adjacent street.
