Using the slideshow feature

Quick Tips

  • Slideshows display relevant photographic images in an overlay, i.e. the images are displayed over the existing page within the existing window (they do NOT open in a new page or a new window).
  • The slideshow feature is activated by clicking / tapping on a thumbnail of a photographic image.
  • When the slideshow begins, it will display the image that was clicked / tapped.
  • If more than one image was displayed on the original page:
    • an image count (X of Y) will be displayed immediately above the image and
    • a pair of control arrows will be displayed in the centre of the left and right-hand edges of the image.
  • If the page contains thumbnails for multiple photographic images, the slideshow can be made to cycle through all such images in the order that they are displayed on the page. This is achieved by using a combination of the following manual controls:
    • To step FORWARD one image:
      • click / tap on the right-facing arrow on the right-hand edge of the image (this works for all device-types), or
      • click / tap on the image (this works for all device-types), or
      • click / tap on the keyboard's right-arrow key (this only works for devices with permanently attached keyboards), or
      • swipe-right-to-left (this only works for touch-screen devices with gesture control).
    • To step BACK one image:
      • click / tap on the left-facing arrow on the left-hand edge of the image (this works for all device-types), or
      • click / tap on the keyboard's left-arrow key (this only works for devices with permanently attached keyboards), or
      • swipe-left-to-right (this only works for touch-screen devices with gesture control).
    • To END the slideshow and close the slideshow overlay, do one of the following:
      • click or tap on the small cross that is located in the top right-hand corner of the image, or
      • for devices with permanently attached keyboards, press the keyboard's 'Esc' key.
  • The slideshow is configured for manual operation only - i.e., the next image will only be displayed when the user does one of the 'step forward' or 'step back' actions listed above.
  • Slideshows operate on a continuous loop, so the first image in the sequence will be displayed (again) after the last image in the sequence has been displayed.
  • Each image will be automatically resized so that it fits within the width of the screen. Do NOT attempt to 'zoom' (enlarge) an image during a slideshow as this can cause problems with the positioning of the image(s) within the browser window and it may prevent the overlay from being closed. (If the latter occurs, use the browser's 'Back' button to end the slideshow and return to the previous page.)

Additional Help

  • Slideshows will only work on devices that have JavaScript installed and enabled.
  • Slideshows have been disabled for devices with a device-width of 400 pixels or less. On small-screen devices, clicking / tapping on an image will open a larger version of the image in the browser's single image viewer. This allows the browser's 'zoom' function to be used to view part(s) of the image at a larger size if desired. To return to the original (host) page, take one of the following actions (as appropriate):
    • If the image was opened in the same window, click / tap on the browser's 'Back' button.
    • If the image was opened in a new window, close the new window.
