A series of virtual tours covering selected places of potential visitor interest within the historic city of York (England, UK).

The original intention was that a small number of circular 'introductory tours' would focus on the city's sightseeing hotspots and that a slightly larger number of linear 'detailed tours' would provide a more comprehensive 'virtual visit' to specific areas of the city. However, the development of the 'Zones' concept has effectively negated the need for the latter and I don't really want the former on the website as I'd rather sell them in book form. With this in mind, the concept of 'tours' generally should now be reserved for my use only (to help me develop a guidebook (or set of guidebooks) containing a series of suggested / recommended walking routes. As currently designed, the website is good for research (if I decide to re-enable indexing by search engines), for virtual exploration / visit planning and for real-world exploration by visitors who have plenty of time and / or visitors who have specific interests. Visitors with limited time and / or a more general level of interest might appreciate a simplified virtual tour (or series of tours) that focus on key places and provide a brief snippet of information about each one. If the tour-based book is (books are) designed carefully and priced realistically, they will 'add value' by making real-world visits easier and more interesting, as well as by providing a memento of those visits. The website can be used to promote the book(s) and it should also give prospective buyers confidence in the quality of my material, thereby increasing the likelihood of a purchase.
