Built in phases from c1360 onwards, Barley Hall has been a hostel for the Priors of Nostell Priory, the home of a wealthy York goldsmith and a plumber's yard.

The exterior staircase and entrance to Barley Hall, plus part of Coffee Yard. The building was restored by the York Archaeological Trust between 1990 and 1993. The 'stocks' are a modern theatrical addition.
