The National Railway Museum claims to house the largest collection of railway-related objects in the world.

The museum hosts a mixture of permanent and temporary exhibitions and houses a wide-range of historic railway-related items. The latter include:

  • steam, diesel and electric locomotives;
  • passenger & freight rolling stock;
  • permanent way items;
  • signalling & telecommunications equipment;
  • station furniture;
  • uniforms & badges;
  • clocks & watches;
  • name plates & number plates;
  • headboards & coats of arms;
  • notices, signs & posters;
  • tickets & timetables;
  • photographs, paintings & sketches;
  • maps & plans;
  • distance diagrams & signalling diagrams;
  • construction drawings & other railway-related documents;
  • teaching and training aids;
  • menus, cutlery, glassware & crockery;
  • railway company road vehicles;
  • railway models & layouts;
  • and other miscellaneous items.

Practical Information
