Minster Yard (south) is a pleasant and popular pedestrianised street adjacent to the south transept of York Minster, within the Liberty of St Peter.

See also Minster Yard (north).

Practical Information

The southern part of Minster Yard gets very busy during the tourist season. If you want to enjoy this fascinating part of York in relative peace, visit before 10am, after 6pm, or during the winter months. Whenever you visit, be wary of cyclists. Although this part of Minster Yard is now paved like a piazza, it is crossed by a very popular (officially waymarked) cycle route. Most cyclists will be both attentive and considerate. However, some are selfish and dangerous, especially during the morning and evening commuting periods.
